I think the controversy is a really interesting generation gap thing. Many of the women complaining seem to be older (e.g. Linda Kennedy editor of MIS Magazine in her article No Bed of Roses). Several younger women have commented to me that they feel it is fine to do something like this if you personally feel OK with it as a participant. Let's face it if IT women are following behind rural grandmothers and firemen we can hardly be seen as controversial. I didn't check my girliness when I became a geek.

Anyway, a few days ago there was hardly any discussion about women in IT and now there is lots of chatter. It's problably worth it just to get the discussion going.
